New Delhi: Ideas, courage, creativity and perseverance were the common traits that ten women achievers brought to the YFLO (Young FICCI Ladies Organization) platform as they stepped forward to accept awards that acknowledged the strides that they had made in their chosen fields.
Music, art, business, design, community service, media and healthcare were some of the streams that these under 45 women represented.
Apart from shattering the glass ceiling and making inroads into professions that men have dominated, these women have inched to the topmost echelons of their professional hierarchies and more importantly, changed public perception about the kind of things women can do.
YFLO, the youth division of the women’s wing of FICCI, ‘serenaded’ these women achievers at a glittering function on 3 April.
Those shortlisted by an eminent panel included Sangita Reddy of Apollo Hospitals (Health Care); Pia Singh (Business/Entrepreneur); Ranna Gill (Fashion Designing); Raseel Gujral Ansal (Interior Designing); Shilpi Singh (Sports); Capt. Indrani Singh (Community Service); Shereen Bhan (Media) Bharti Kher (Visual Arts); Meeta Pandit(Indian Classical Music) and Aditi Mangaldas (Performing Arts).
Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, Dr. Najma Heptulla presented the awards.
According to Radhika Backliwal Narain, Chairperson, YFLO, “I feel proud to be a woman born in India, for our traditions and deep rooted family values and the kind of spiritual atmosphere that most of us grow up in, add a stronger dimension to the way we view the world and handle different situations. Our challenge today is to maintain our inherent ‘Indianness’ while we keep ourselves proactive and outward looking.”
