The Polish Way | Poland’s own art
The Embassy of Poland in Delhi is exhibiting select works of poster art from the 1960’s to the present. The exhibition, “Polish School of Poster Art" was inaugurated on 24 May and will be open until 30 May.
“Poster art has been an integral part of Poland’s culture," said Akumal Ramachander, a writer who has been following Polish art for many years. Poland’s communism and censorship did not allow people to speak their mind, as a result of which they started using art, especially poster art as a medium of expression, Ramachander said.
“We wanted to introduce Polish poster art to Indians which is why we stuck to simple themes like movies, theatre, opera and circus," said Hemal Paliwal, who is the curator of the exhibition.
The posters will travel to other cities in India in the coming months.
