Privacy protections for individuals worsened around the globe in 2007, as many governments stepped up surveillance and data-gathering to improve security, according to a recent report by the Washington, DC-based Electronic Privacy Information Center and the London-based Privacy International. Mint brings you the detailed survey of 47 nations, including India, which was classified as an “extensive surveillance society” and in the second-to-last cluster when measured on levels of surveillance. India also ranked among the 21 countries with the “worst” record when it comes to intercepting individual communications.
