Jammu: About 17.69% votes were cast till 11 am today in Jammu-Poonch parliamentary constituency, where polling is being held in the first phase of five phased Lok Sabha elections in the state, officials said here.
The polling percentage in two assembly segments of Samba and Vijaypur in Samba district was 19%, while it was 21.43% in Jammu district’s 11 assembly constituencies of Nagrota, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu East, Jammu West, Bishnah, R S Pura, Suchetgarh, Marh, Raipur-Domana, Akhnoor and Chhamb, they said.
In border district of Rajouri, the polling percentage in four assembly segments of Nowshera, Darhal, Rajouri and Kalakote was 16 per cent, while it was 14.33% in three assembly segments of Surankote, Mendhar and Poonch-Haveli in Poonch district.
The highest polling percentage of 27.32 was recorded in R S Pura assembly segment of Jammu district, while the lowest polling percentage of 9.33 was recorded in Gandhi Nagar assembly constituency of the same district in the first four hours.
The polling was initially slow but it picked up pace later across all the 20 assembly segments in the parliamentary constituency, where 17.21 voters will decide the fate of 21 candidates.
