Kolkata: The Steel Executives Federation of India on 11 April threatened a nationwide movement jointly with other PSU employees this month against proposed amendment to the Income Tax act in the Finance Bill for 2007-08.
“We will also organise mass signature campaign, which will be sent to the prime minister and speaker of the Lok Sabha seeking withdrawal of the proposed amendment,” Federation chairman Brahma Mishra said.
The act concerns taxing housing perquisites and the amendment would bring down salaries by 10-15%, he claimed.
“Our salary is not at par with private sector as our salary is fixed by the government, but our tax is at par with the private sector,” Federation general secretary S K Hajra Chaudhuri said.
