New Delhi: On the eve of Independence Day, Indian Air Force has placed all its bases along Pakistan border in “operational readiness mode" to ward off any aerial threat.

As per the alert, fighter aircrafts at all IAF bases on the Western front are on a stand-by mode, ready to take off in case any threat is detected, sources in the IAF said today.

The “operational readiness" is intended to thwart any aerial attack by an aircraft or any other flying object, they said.

In Delhi, where Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will unfurl the tricolor tomorrow morning in presence of the country’s top brass of political and military leadership, the air space will be closed for non-scheduled flights and private services from 0600 hours to 1000 hours and 1600 hours to 1900 hours.

A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has already been issued to all the airlines by the Air Traffic Control in this regard, a Delhi Airport official said.

There will, however, be no restrictions on movements of commercial and military aircraft, implying that scheduled flights of all airlines would operate as per schedule.
