Three killed in BJP-Trinamool clash
Police vehicle attacked, several homes set ablaze in skirmish in Birbhum's Makra village
Kolkata: Three persons were killed on Monday in West Bengal’s Birbhum district in a conflict between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers, reminiscent of the stand-off in Nandigram between the Trinamool Congress and the Left parties in 2006-2007.
A police vehicle was attacked and several homes set ablaze in Monday’s skirmish in Makra village, which lasted at least two hours. Those who died had fallen to bullets.
Only last week, several police officers were attacked when they were raiding a health centre in nearby Chakmondala village on suspicion that it was being used to manufacture and stockpile crude bombs. A large cache of bombs was recovered from the health centre.
