New Delhi: Till yesterday morning, there was a semblance of unity between the opposition and the ruling UPA on presenting a combined front to those who carried out the Mumbai carnage. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and BJP leader L.K. Advani were even planning to travel to Mumbai together.

78a67a8a-bd58-11dd-8e36-000b5dabf613.flvThat never happened. And by today evening, any such claims of unity lay in tatters.

A campaign ad in all major dailies released by the BJP claimed “Brutal terror strikes at will-Weak government, unwilling and incapable." That got the Congress’ goat.

Spokesperson Manish Tewari slammed the BJP for the inappropriate timing. “The kind of advertisement which the BJP has released today. I know they are desperate for votes. I know that we are in middle of election process. But I wish they would have waited a little. I would have understood if the BJP would have come out with an ad saluting brave officers and men, whom they had condemmed as recent as day before yesterday, for their valiant sacrifice. But what I’ve have not been able to understand is the impatience, inability to wait even for 24 hours," he said.

The BJP surprisingly refused to reply to the Congress’ charges.
