New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar on Friday said she has received the resignation letters of 13 members of Parliament from Andhra Pradesh’s Telangana region and that she is examining the matter. The speaker said she would take a decision before 1 August, the day the monsoon session of Parliament begins. “It is sad to receive so many resignations, these are under my examination...there are rules that govern resignation of MPs, I will follow those,” Kumar told reporters.
The MPs, including those from the ruling Congress party, sent in their resignations demanding the creation of a separate Telangana state.
Meanwhile, S Jaipal Reddy, petroleum minister belonging to Chelvella constituency from Andhra Pradesh, met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday to discuss the situation. “I merely conveyed my assessment of the situation to the PM,” he said.
