Note ban: Opposition ups the ante ahead of winter session

A majority of opposition parties has decided to take the Union government to task for mismanaging the partial demonetization of currency. Pakistan warns of escalation after 7 soldiers killed in Kashmir clashes

Pakistan on Monday said seven of its soldiers had been killed in cross-border shelling by India with Sartaj Aziz, foreign affairs adviser to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, condemning the incident and warning of a further escalation in tensions.

A Twitter post by the Inter Service Public Relations of the Pakistan Army said : “7 soldiers embraced shahadat (martyrdom) at #LOC in Bhimber sector in cross fire LOC violation by Indian troops late last night." Read more.

Jute mill owners are bracing for a massive production outage with demonetization of Rs500 and Rs1,000 notes disrupting supply of raw jute in peak production season. Mill owners are also anxious about payment of salaries, which is due on 21-22 November. Workers are paid once every fortnight in cash at almost every mill. Read More.

BJP forms new team with an eye on Mumbai civic polls

Keeping an eye on the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections and Mumbai civic polls, the Mumbai unit of the BJP has given equal preference to Marathi and North Indian communities in its new team announced recently.
