New Delhi: Spurred by high growth rates of over 20% in a majority of segments, India’s manufacturing sector has clocked a growth of 13% during April-December 2006, a survey by the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) found.
Sectors which have recorded excellent growth during the nine-month period include electrical equipment and machinery (25%), power cables (41%), air-conditioners (25%), DVD players(50%), personal computers (30%), commercial vehicles (37%), textile machinery (25%) and flat televisions (50%).
A spate of mergers and acquisitions in the manufacturing industry segments, consolidation of the cement industry, integration of the steel industry with the global economy, growing interest of foreign companies in India and increasing exports in many engineering sectors have fuelled the boom in the manufacturing sector. Auto components (15%), automobiles (16%), oil and gas equipment (16%), motor starters (17%), pipes and tubes (14.5%) and electronic components (11%) are the sectors which have recorded high growth, the survey revealed.
