Richest candidate so far is from BSP
New Delhi: Deepak Bhardwaj, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate from West Delhi, declared assets worth Rs603 crore before the Election Commission on Thursday, making him perhaps the richest candidate to enter into the fray so far.
The richest candidate had been Khimji Harjeevan Patadia(with Rs514 crore worth of asstes), of the Krantikari Jaihind Sena, who is contesting from Surendranagar in Gujarat.
Bhardwaj said he had joined the BSP as the party was gaining in popularity when compared with other national parties. “I was briefly associated with (the) Congress as well as the BJP but then I opted for the BSP as there is almost no in-fighting here," he said.
Bhardwaj runs the Shiksha Bharati School in Delhi apart from the Nitesh Kunj Hotel. The BSP candidate said he was also constructing townships in Haridwar and Uttarakhand.
