Paris: The top US trade official says it’s too soon to declare the Doha Round of commerce liberalization talks a failure. But US Trade Representative Ron Kirk says Washington is prepared to use bilateral and regional trade agreements to achieve its aim of boosting American exports while Doha stalls. Kirk told The Associated Press in Paris on Thursday that “it’s way too soon to begin any talk about giving up or walking away from Doha.” But he says concluding the free trade talks launched in Qatar’s capital ten years ago requires sacrifices also from rapidly emerging economies such as Brazil, China, Russia and India. He says any successful Doha deal is reached it could set the terms of global trade for the next 25-30 years.
