New Delhi: Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has congratulated external affairs minister S.M. Krishna on his assumption of office, with a message that his country wants to resolve all bilateral issues with India through dialogue in a peaceful and cooperative environment.
In a letter sent to Krishna, Qureshi said he looked forward to meet the new external affairs minister to exchange views on bilateral and regional issues.
“Please accept my heartiest felicitations on your appointment as the External Affairs Minister of the Republic of India,” Qureshi’s letter to Krishna said.
“I wish to take this opportunity to reiterate that Pakistan remains committed to the pursuit of cordial and mutually beneficial relations with India and to resolve all bilateral issues between the two countries through dialogue and in a peaceful and cooperative environment,” he said.
The bilateral composite dialogue between the two countries was suspended last November after terror attack in Mumbai carried out by Pakistan-based elements.
Pakistan has been pressing for resumption of talks but India has maintained that it would not be possible till Islamabad takes concrete and transparent action to punish those behind the Mumbai attacks and dismantles terror infrastructure existing in that country.
