All-party committee calls for Telangana shutdown on Wednesday
Hyderabad: Political leaders in favour of carving out a Telangana state out of Andhra Pradesh have called for a shutdown in the disputed region on Wednesday, drawing back attention to the movement after a brief lull.
The all-party Telangana joint action committee (T-JAC) has set 28 January as the deadline for the Union government to announce a timeframe for creating a Telangana state, comprising 10 districts in the region including state capital Hyderabad.
To add pressure on the Union government, the Telangana students’ joint action committee called for a boycott of exams that were to begin on Tuesday. The registrar of Osmania University has postponed the exams.
