New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday directed BSES Yamuna, the Anil Ambani-controlled utility that supplies power to some parts of Delhi, to pay back dues from 1 January to 30 June owed to transmission and generating companies.

Chief justice of India R.M. Lodha and justices Madan B. Lokur and Kurien Joseph ordered the dues to be paid by 15 July. however, the judges did not pass any orders regarding BSES Rajdhani, also owned by the Anil Ambani. At the hearing, it was mentioned it had paid 94% of its dues.

Leaving the contentions and figures of the parties open to be contested later, the court asked the matter to be listed two months later.

As on 30 June, BSES Yamuna has to make a payment of 161 crore to various electricity transmission and generating companies, according to a company spokesperson. The court, however, mentioned 370 crore as the sum that BSES Yamuna owes to generating companies.

In a 6 May order, the apex court had granted time to BSES Rajdhani and BSES Yamuna to pay their dues by 31 May. The distribution companies (discoms) owed generator NTPC Ltd 700 crore till May.

On Thursday, NTPC said that all dues to it had been cleared by BSES Yamuna.

The apex court on 7 February had directed that there be no disconnection in the supply of electricity to discoms and had asked the discoms to pay an initial 50 crore to NTPC.
