Pak delegation to visit India for Saarc trade talks: report
Islamabad: A high-level Pakistani trade delegation will be visiting India to participate in the upcoming regional meeting on economic cooperation of Saarc member nations.
The three-member delegation from the Commerce Ministry will reach India on 9 February, to participate in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation talks to encourage free trade in the region.
“I along with two other officials will go to India to discuss trade and economic cooperation among the regional countries," Commerce Secretary Suleman Ghani said.
He said this was a routine scheduled meeting of Saarc member states and had nothing to do with the bilateral trade negotiations. The agenda for the regional meeting is enhancing free trade.
India put all contacts with Pakistan, including the composite dialogue process, on hold in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks in November last year. India has said elements within Pakistan planned and coordinated the attacks that killed over 180 people.
Pakistan has assured India of full cooperation in probing the attacks and called for the resumption of dialogue.
Trade talks between the two countries scheduled to be held in mid-December were postponed due to the prevailing tensions.
