New Delhi: Addressing the 83rd Congress plenary session on Sunday, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi said that, “we have to pay attention to our weaknesses also, which are visible from time to time."
The Congress president said the party would hold brainstorming sessions soon on the lines of Pachmarhi and Shimla in the past.
Gandhi further added that the Congress was opposed to fundamentalism of all shades — whether by majority or minority organizations. Both are dangerous and should be tackled.
She said: There should be no tolerance for corruption or misconduct, we have demonstrated it through our actions."
Criticizing the opposition parties, Gandhi said: “We have asked our chief minister and ministers to resign on charges of corruption. Can the BJP or the Left parties make the same claim. In Karnataka, corruption is rampant."
Meanwhile, the party said Sonia Gandhi will continue as president for the next five years.
The party on Sunday amended its constitution to extend its party president’s term to five years from the current three years.
The party will hold its organization elections once in five years.
"Our experience has shown that election process takes longer time. So we have decided to extend the term to five years," party general secretary Oscar Fernandes said.
