Uranium reserves in 10 states
New Delhi: Over one lakh tonnes of uranium reserves have been found across 10 states in the country, Rajya Sabha was informed Thursday.
In a written reply, Minister of State in PMO Prithviraj Chavan said mining is taken by Uranium Corporation of India Ltd (UCIL) after assessing commercial viability.
At present UCIL operates five mines at Jadugoda, Bhatin, Narwapahar, Turamdih and Banduhurang in the Singhbhum East district in Jharkhand, Chavan said.
The Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research is engaged in survey, exploration and evaluation of atomic and nuclear minerals of uranium, thorium, niobium, tantalum, beryllium, zirconium and lithium required for the atomic energy programme of the country.
