Weather | Low pressure area in Bay of Bengal may result in a cyclone

Low pressure could intensify into a deep depression in 2-3 days; temperatures may rise in north India

photoThe formation of a low pressure area in southeast Bay of Bengal could intensify into a deep depression over the next 48 to 72 hours, which could eventually result in a cyclonic storm developing in the region.

Dry weather is expected in northwest and north India over the next two days. Rains are expected to continue at many places in the northeast and at one or two places in Bihar, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal. South Peninsula can also expect rains during the period.

Rains are likely to continue over West Bengal and Sikkim during the next two days. The northeastern states may get rains due to the cyclonic circulation over east Assam and Nagaland.

Rains are also expected in Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha and Andhra Pradesh. The wind dis-continuity now runs from east Uttar Pradesh to Kerala across Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha and interior Karnataka. Showers are aso expected in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Howver, temperatures in north India are likely to rise due to reduced cloud cover. No major changes are seen in the mercury levels in northwest India. Temperatures are unlikely to deviate much in Delhi over the next two days. Wind will blow in a northerly to northwesterly direction in Delhi.

Rains will reduce over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand in the next 24 hours. Dry weather conditions could prevail in J&K in the next two to three days. The western disturbance that lies over J&K could move east-northeastwards during this period.
