New Delhi: India’s telecoms regulator is working on new proposals for 2G spectrum pricing and is hopeful of releasing the recommendations by the end of this month, its chairman said on Tuesday.

J.S. Sarma told reporters he was “hopeful" on submitting a new proposal on 2G spectrum pricing by end-October.“Yes, we are working towards it," Sarma said.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had in May recommended that mobile carriers pay a one-time fee for holding 2G radio-spectrum beyond 6.2 mega hertz based on 3G prices, a move that would hit established firms and drew howls of protest from them.

Later in May, the regulator said it would submit fresh proposals to the government after a consultation process, and that the process would end by 15 July.
