He is not Great… he’s greater than the great! These are the words of Ranoj Basu. The 65 yr old, Permanent Secretary of AICC today is one of the few who have worked closely with Pandit Nehru. “I was fifteen, when I joined Congress. My guruji had introduced me to Panditji, he needed someone in his office and that’s how I started working as an office boy there.”
Ranoj Basu remembers Nehru as a very particular man. He liked his papers arranged and his files kept in order. “Any carelessness there would make him angry”, Basu says.
According to Basu, Nehru had always loved children. Even in their small party gatherings, his workers were invited with children and Nehru used to spend time playing with them. “He even kept a few pictures of them with him, such was his love for children. Otherwise his birthday celebrations were very simple.”
