India slams Pak over allegation about Taliban funding
Bangalore: India on Wednesday slammed Pakistan for accusing it of funding Taliban, saying such allegations were the “most ridiculous" and “irrational" as the outfit is considered as a “dreaded terror" organization here.
External affairs minister SM Krishna said India has been asking Pakistan to take action against Taliban as also other groups like Laskar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), responsible for Mumbai and other attacks here.
“This is the most ridiculous statement I have heard," he said at a ‘Meet-the-Press’ programme here when his reaction was sought to the allegation by Pakistan’s interior minister Rehman Malik that India is funding Taliban.
“We consider Taliban a dreaded terror outfit. We have suggested to Pakistan to take action against terrorist organisations like Taliban, LeT and JuD, which change names but breed terror," he added.
Malik had claimed that he was “convinced" about India funding Taliban to destabilize Pakistan.
To a question, Krishna said, “When such irrational statements are made, we take up through diplomatic channels."
The external affairs minister reminded Pakistan about the need to punish the perpetrators of Mumbai attacks.
He said India had given six dossiers containing “all evidence that we were able to collect" with the hope that Pakistan will investigate further on the basis of it.
If Pakistan brings to book the perpetrators of Mumbai attack, India will be satisfied, Krishna said.
