AAP govt tells power officials tariffs should not be increased till CAG audit of discoms is completed
New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government on Wednesday said that it will soon provide relief to power consumers by extending a subsidy.
Power minister Satyendra Jain on Wednesday held a meeting with officials of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) and it is understood that the government conveyed to the power officials that electricity tariffs should not be increased till the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) audit of discoms was completed.
“The government will take a decision soon to give subsidy for power," a statement in New Delhi said. Jain said that the AAP government will try to provide round-the-clock power to the people of Delhi at cheap rates. In its election manifesto, the AAP had promised to slash power bills by 50%. Meanwhile, all six cabinet ministers of the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government have held review meetings with the officials of their respective departments.
