Coimbatore: The cotton lint prices displayed a steady to firm trend during the first fortnight of the month according to South India Cotton Association (SICA). The seed cotton arrivals were on declining trend and the quality of current arrivals was reported lower, SICA, in its market report for the period, said.
Prices remained steady to marginally high trend in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, with Bengal Deshi ruling at Rs1810 to Rs1950 and J-34 Saw Ginned at Rs2100 to Rs2290 per maund spot, it said.
With Shankar-6 being quoted at Rs21,500 to Rs22,400 and V-797 at Rs17,300 to Rs17,500 per candy spot, prices ruled steady to firm in Gujarat, while simuilar trend prevailed in Madhya Pradesh, where MECH-1/H4 ruled at Rs20,600 to Rs21,300 per candy spot.
Prices ranged between Rs20,500 and Rs21,000 per candy spot for 28-30mm staple in Maharashtra.
A mixed to steady trend persisted in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka with MCU-5 ruling at Rs21,500 to Rs22,000 in former and DCH-32 at rs.30,000 to Rs30,200 per candy spot in Karnataka.
Prices ruled steady to firm in Tamil Nadu, where mills demand were not that significant, following slow movement and low prices of yarn, SICA said.
