New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday announced that Jarnail Singh, a member of the Delhi legislative assembly, would be the party’s candidate to contest against Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.

“Lambi is Parkash Singh Badal’s constituency. We need to make them lose. Members of his family have been robbing the state of Punjab and he did nothing to stop them. It is necessary to stop them and that’s why I have chosen my younger brother Jarnail Singh to contest from here," Kejriwal said while addressing a rally in Lambi.

AAP, which is contesting assembly elections in Punjab for the first time, has already announced Bhagwant Mann as its candidate against deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Criticising the AAP, Congress said that the move “reeks of an underhand deal".

“Jarnail’s nomination from Lambi shows an AAP-SAD (Shiromani Akali Dal) collusion to ensure Badal’s victory. Reeks of an underhand deal," Amarinder Singh of the Congress said on Twitter.
