Ghafar Khan's mausoleum's renovation begins

Islamabad: Afghan President Hamid Karzai has inaugurated the renovation work at the mausoleum of “Frontier Gandhi" Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan in Jalalabad.
Speaking on the occasion, Karzai praised Khan Abdul Ghafar Khan also Known as ‘Bacha Khan´ and announced the Bacha Khan Peace Award for the followers of his non-violence philosophy.
Karzai said Pakthoons living along the Durand Line were being killed and defamed through a “well-planned conspiracy".
“The global community recognized the real conspirators and they would be revealed before the international community soon," Karzai was quoted as saying by Daily Times.
“Bacha Khan’s philosophy of non-violence is a lesson for all of us. He always spoke for peace and love and worked against force and violence," he said, adding Khan had played a key role in educating and moulding peoples’ opinion towards the right direction.
Karzai said people were beginning to realize Khan’s peace philosophy and Khan himself had spent 34 years of his life in jail for raising his voice against violence and trying to educate people, he added.
He criticised the Taliban for killing an Afghan reporter despite the government’s fulfilment of their demands. Awami National Party president Asfandyar Wali Khan, the grand son of Gaffar Khan, Nangarhar Governor Gul Agha and senior officials of the Afghan government were also present.
The Afghan government and Bacha Khan Trust of the ANP would finance renovation work.
