Ousted Honduran leader cites divisions at home

Zelaya says a communique released by the military over the weekend suggests “there is an internal rebellion" dividing the armed forces and the interim civilian government in power since a 28 June coup drove him from power.

A statement posted on the military’s Web site reaffirms its subordination to civilian authorities. It also voices support for a solution to the nation’s political crisis under an internationally mediation accord rejected by the civilian government.

Zelaya spoke late on Sunday to reporters and his Honduran supporters gathered in a Nicaraguan town close to Honduras.
