New Delhi: The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has called for a meeting with all the chief ministers of Himalayan states to build a political consensus on the issue of climate change. The Prime Minister’s council on climate change met on Monday to finalize the mission on Himalayan ecosystem, which is one of the most vulnerable areas to climate change.
“Most of the points were agreed upon but the final nod will be given after agreement of the states,” said a member of the council, who did not wish to be identified.
Research from glaciology institutes will be used as input for the meeting with the states, for which the date has not been finalized. The G B Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment and Development also recently released a report with guidelines on how such climate-prone areas should be treated. This report will also be an input to the final document.
