Jammu: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday said the “jinx" of policy paralysis which the country was going through for the past 60 years was broken when Narendra Modi took over as the prime minister a year ago.

“There was a policy paralysis in the country for the past 60 years and especially during the last ten years of UPA rule when everything had come to a standstill. But the jinx was broken when a year ago Prime Minister Narendra Modi took over the office," BJP MP and spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi told reporters in Jammu on Tuesday.

Lekhi said that the government during its very first cabinet meeting cleared the setting up of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe blackmoney stashed by Indians abroad. She said that the Planning Commission was disbanded to set up the NITI Ayog with significant participation of leaders of all the 29 states and Union territories.

“The move augmented better centre-state coordination in policy formulation and evolved a shared vision of national development. The government effectively managed legislative business with the passage of nearly 30 important bills in the Parliament and the historic Indo-Bangladesh Land Boundary Agreement Bill 2015 cutting across party lines which aims to bring peace on India’s north-eastern borders," she said.

Referring to Modi as a “CEO", she said that India has finally got an accountable, responsive and efficient “CEO" on the job who works 21 hours a day, seven days a week constantly engaging with the people.

“Narendra Modi has arrived to fulfil the aspirations of more than hundred crore Indians. In its first year the government had to initiate massive re-structuring to create an efficient scam-free, dynamic and responsive administration inherited from UPA’s indecisive, paralytic and a corrupt regime," she said.

She said that the government also managed to kickstart nearly 30% of the projects which were held up during the 10 year rule of UPA government for various reasons. The Project Monitoring Group set up in the Cabinet Secretariat cleared 186 projects worth Rs6.8 lakh crore, she said.
