New Delhi: Union minister and DMK representative Dayanidhi Maran on Thursday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here.
It was not clear as to what transpired during the meeting which came ahead of the expected reshuffle of the Union Council of Ministers and amidst doubts over his continuance in the Cabinet.
Maran sought to dismiss the meeting as a routine one.
“It is nothing... I am a minister,” he underlined and contended that the meeting was related to official work.
Maran, the textiles minister, has recently come under scrutiny over his role in the 2G spectrum issue. He was the telecom minister in UPA-1 when the 2G licences were allocated.
On Wednesday, the Prime Minister told a small group of newspapers editors in an interaction, a new exercise that will be frequently repeated with other media outlets, that he would reshuffle his Cabinet very soon.
According to a Hindustan Times report, the talk in the political circles is that the expansion-cum- reshuffle could take place either on 1-2 July or after President Pratibha Patil returns from Hyderabad on 8 July. However, it will be certainly ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament, beginning 1 August.
A number of ministers are having dual portfolios, Railways is without a Cabinet minister following Mamata Banerjee taking over as West Bengal chief minister. Some ministers such as Kapil Sibal and Vilasrao Deshmukh are holding dual charge.
It is also being speculated that Dayanidhi Maran, who finds himself at the centre of a 2G controversy, may be dropped.
