New Delhi: With big-city dwellers looking for a way to escape from their busy lives and erratic work schedules, a large proliferation of spas, catering to discerning tastes and needs of the high-end consumer, have taken Indian cities by storm. Many have seen rapid growth, with some spas seeing revenues increasing as much as 60% annually.
Spas have also seen a change in their clientele, who are willing to spend anywhere between 2,000 and 10,000 rupees to pamper themselves on an exotic massage. Earlier, the typical spa customer was a woman in the 40-60-age range. Today, the typical spa customer is between 30-50 years old, and it’s both men and women who are regulars.
