New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed the central government and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to suggest names for a panel of administrators to replace the board’s office bearers.

“Submit the names in a sealed envelope within three days," the court said.

A bench comprising justices Dipak Misra, A.M. Khanwilkar and D.Y. Chandrachud also agreed to consider BCCI’s plea to suggest three names to represent the cricketing board at the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting due next month.

The court had initially asked senior advocates Gopal Subramaniam and Anil Divan to suggest names for selecting the panel of administrators. On Tuesday, the court rejected over nine names suggested by the senior advocates as most of them were above the age of 70 —the age limit set by the Lodha committee for BCCI office bearers.

According to a person close to the development at BCCI, the names of BCCI administrators will be decided through the traditional voting system characteristic of the board. A meeting is likely to be held by Amitabh Choudhary and C.K Khanna, acting secretary and president of BCCI, along with 31 full members, associate members, affiliate members and four office bearers.

“At this point, the BCCI is under a lot of pressure, so we’d like the administrators to be capable, have a keen understanding of the game and understand the dynamics between cricketing bodies like the ICC and India," said the person cited above.

At the ICC meet in February, revenue distribution model from 2015-2023 is likely to be finalized. The case will be heard next on 30 January.
