Narendra Modi to address joint conference of CBDT, CBEC officials on 16-17 June
The conference will discuss the challenges facing the tax departments and ways to make the tax regime competitive
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a joint conference of officials from the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) on 16-17 June as the tax collection arms of the government focus on improving services to tax payers.
The conference will discuss the challenges facing the tax departments and ways to make the tax regime competitive.
The conference will be attended by senior officers of CBDT and CBEC.
“The conference provides a platform to assess the performance of the year gone by and to deliberate on emerging issues without any hierarchical barriers," the tax department said.
As many as “251 officers of the rank of principal chief commissioners, chief commissioners and principal commissioners from CBDT and 170 from CBEC are expected to participate in the conference", it added.
The income tax department will hold sessions on investigation into undisclosed assets, exchange of information, dispute resolution and paperless assessments.
The indirect tax department will look at trade facilitation and dispute management. CBEC will also release a taxpayer perception survey.
