New Delhi: India has dismissed a statement by foreign ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) criticising alleged Indian human rights violations in Kashmir.

“We note with extreme regret that the OIC has again chosen to comment on India’s internal affairs during the 43rd Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers held in Uzbekistan on 18-19 October 2016," the Indian foreign ministry spokesman Vikas Swarup said in a statement.

“Certain resolutions adopted at the conclusion of the session contain factually incorrect and misleading references to matters internal to India, including the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, which is an integral part of India. We outrightly reject all such references," Swarup said.

“The OIC has no locus standi on India’s internal affairs. We further advise the OIC to refrain from making such references in future," he added.

Pakistan which disputes Kashmir is part of India is among the 57 member organisation. India suspects the strong OIC statement is at the behest of Pakistan which has fought three of their four wars with India over Kashmir.

India-Pakistan ties have been in free fall since Islamabad described Burhan Wani, a terrorist belonging to the Hizbul Mujahideen group who was shot dead by Indian security forces in July, as a “martyr" and a “Kashmiri leader". Pakistan has been vociferously highlighting what it calls are human rights violations in Kashmir, riling India.
