Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government witnessed two significant changes—reallocation of the finance portfolio and the transfer of the state’s intelligence chief—on Thursday.

Fisheries minister D. Jayakumar was allocated the finance portfolio, according to a statement from the governor’s office.

“The honourable governor of Tamil Nadu has today (23.2.2017) accepted the recommendations of the chief minister (Edappadi K. Palaniswami) that subjects Finance, Planning, legislative assembly, Elections & Passports, Personnel & Administrative reforms, Personnel & Administrative reforms (Training) hitherto dealt with by chief minister may be reallocated to D. Jayakumar, minister of fisheries in addition to the portfolios now held by him," said the statement.

Earlier in the day top police official S. Davidson Devasirvatham was transferred out of his post just 11 days after taking over as the Tamil Nadu Intelligence chief.

Devasirvatham replaced IG (Intelligence) K.N. Sathiyamurthy on 12 February in the midst of a power in the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).

“S. Davidson Devasirvatham IPS, Inspector General of Police, Intelligence, Chennai is transferred and posted as Inspector General of Police, Welfare, Chennai, in the existing vacancy," said a statement by Apurva Verma, principal home secretary, on Thursday.
