Coimbatore: The local chapter of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has expressed serious concern over the unscheduled power cuts, due to which industry, particularly foundry and textile sectors, were losing production ranging from 10% to 15% every day.
Due to poor and irregular voltage, costly and sophisticated electrical equipment were damaged, chamber president, D. Balasundaram said in a relese on 6 April.
Industry and trade were paying maximum demand charges on monthly basis on fixed KVA of power, he said adding the overnment has to declare power cuts, which would result in the industry paying only maximum demand charges to the extent of power consumed.
He also urged the state government to initiate steps to reduce the power tariff, as was done by Andhra Pradesh.
The state government should also make arrangements on a war-footing for evacuation of power from windmills, which was suffering due to poor infrastructure, the chamber said.
