New Delhi: The possibility of the inflation rate rising in the current fiscal cannot be ruled out, National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) said on Wednesday.
“The question arises whether there would be an uptrend in the inflation rate once the base effect runs out. The possibility of inflation striking back in the year ahead cannot be ruled out,” the research institute said in its monthly report.

GoM to assess impact of Asean trade pact
New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday constituted a group of ministers (GoM) headed by finance minister Pranab Mukherjee to look into the impact of the proposed free-trade agreement with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or Asean.
The GoM is expected to give its assessment to the government before the signing of the agreement, which is expected to take place before October. The GoM was formed in the wake of members of Parliament from Kerala and ministers, including defence minister A.K. Anthony and overseas Indian affairs minister Vayalar Ravi, raising concerns over the impact of the trade deal on the cash crops from the state.
