India increasingly seeing extreme swings in rainfall

The deluge in Jammu and Kashmir has revived questions about the link between climate change and extreme rainfall events

The deluge in Jammu and Kashmir, coming after several instances of flooding across the nation this year, has revived questions about the link between climate change and extreme rainfall events. The increasing trend of such events is seen as reflecting the impact of climate change. In 2005, extremely heavy rainfall events caused massive devastation in Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore. Over the years, meteorologists have published several studies to understand how extreme rainfall patterns are changing in India.
