Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday congratulated Narendra Modi for Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) victory even as Lok Sabha election results predicted a rout for the ruling Congress party. Bollywood celebrities, industry captains, social media and senior BJP leaders too pitched in their good wishes.

Election results show the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leading in over 300 seats—indication of an absolute majority.

Earlier in the day as election trends emerged, Modi went to meet his mother Hiraba in Gandhinagar to seek her blessings. He bowed down before his mother, who blessed him by putting both her hands on him. “He has my blessings and he will
lead the country towards development," she said, when asked to comment on the counting trends.

The BJP prime ministerial candidate also sat with the family members and talked to his mother, who is staying with her other son Pankaj Modi in Gandhinagar. He was also seen talking to the children of his brother’s family.

Hiraba had also used her right to franchise from Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat, from where veteran BJP leader L.K. Advani is contesting.

Congratulatory messages also poured in from senior leaders of the BJP. Sushma Swaraj credited “able leadership" of Narendra Modi besides hard labour of BJP workers and blessings of RSS for the party’s victory.

BJP patriarch L.K. Advani too congratulated the prime ministerial candidate but apparently did not give full credit to him saying it needs to be assessed as to what contribution his leadership has made to the party’s unprecedented victory.

Bollywood celebrities welcomed Narendra Modi with the hope for a “new India, opportunity and future".

“End of era of feudal politics. Dynastic politics. A new India. A new opportunity. A new future. Let it not go waste Narendra Modi congrats," Shekhar Kapur tweeted. Veteran playback singer Asha Bhosle tweeted, “Finally a Prime Minister who speaks Hindi... Jai Hind." Director Karan Johar called Modi’s success the first blockbuster of the year. “BJP... the first major blockbuster of the year! Huge opening and no sign of a Monday drop," Johar posted.

Anupam Kher, whose actress wife Kirron Kher defeated AAP’s Gul Panag and Congress’ Pawan Kumar Bansal from Chandigarh constituency, tweeted, “Achche Din Aa Gaye (Good days are here). Jai Ho."

Industry leaders also hailed the clear mandate to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). They exuded confidence that Narendra Modi will initiate bold and decisive policy reforms to promote economic growth.

“A clear mandate is positive for India. Ficci hopes that this mandate will help the leadership restore much needed investor confidence, attract higher investments
and generate employment, especially in the manufacturing sector," Ficci president Sidharth Birla said.

Assocham President Rana Kapoor said: “A majority mandate gives hope of a stable government, paving the way for bold and decisive policy reforms. This can herald a sustainable 10% growth of the economy in the next 18-24 months". The nation, Birla said, awaits an era of minimum government and maximum governance.

Welspun Renewables Energy vice-chairman Vineet Mittal said: “This is a win for the people of India and demonstrates how young participation can transform the country."
