New Delhi: The Congress Working Committee (CWC), the apex decision making body of the ruling party, backed the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government strongly and said that the government should not succumb to any pressure tactics.
The CWC held a meeting of its members on Friday on issues concerning the Lokpal Bill.
“Some members raised concern over how 4-5 people can stand on their own and make a demand like this...so, the government should not weaken itself as pressure tactics is not correct,” party general secretary, Janardhan Dwivedi said after the meeting.
”Party’s policy is that we will support whatever draft the government prepares,” he said in reply to whether the party endorsed the government’s draft.
The Congress party is also expected to come out with another booklet carrying the party’s views on the Lokpal Bill. The party on 10 June had released a booklet containing its views on issues of black money.
