Mumbai: Myanmar’s pro democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi is expected to visit India in November, people close to the developments said on Thursday.

The dates are yet to be finalised but Suu Kyi is expected to deliver the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Lecture on 14 November.

This will be her first visit after being freed from house arrest almost two years ago. Since November 2010, she has travelled to several western countries including the US and the UK.

India has been maintaining ties with the nominally civilian government in Myanmar headed by Thein Sein, a former army general.

Suu Kyi has been cool towards India as it has maintained ties with the previous military junta that was in power before the November 2010 elections that brought the civilian government to power.
