Obama should clarify the US policy towards Pakistan: BJP
Lucknow: Senior BJP leader and former union minister Murli Manohar Joshi Monday said that US President Barack Obama should clarify his country’s policy towards Pakistan if he was committed to fight the menace of terrorism.
“Obama administration’s policy is not clear on terrorism. While on one hand, the US talks about fighting terrorism, on the other it extends financial assistance to Pakistan which is harbouring mercenaries," Joshi told reporters here in reply to a question.
“It is important that Obama should disclose his country’s policy towards Pakistan," he said.
The BJP leader said that India should not take be happy on the fact that Obama will not be visiting Pakistan, because it had already extended assistance to the neighbouring country to a tune of several crore dollars.
He also asked the Prime Minister to disclose the details of his talks with Chinese premier Wen Jiabao during his recent visit to Bejing and take the Parliament and the people of the country into confidence.
“China had always deceived India, therefore, the Prime Minister should not get influenced by the words of its premier," he alleged.
He said that after capturing Tibet, China has its eyes on Arunachal Pradesh and was trying to corner India from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Sri Lanka sides.
“The Prime Minister should disclose to the people of the country whatever talks he had with the Chinese premier related to security and other issues.
Joshi said that China was not only helping Pakistan in the field of nuclear energy, but also providing assistance in building nuke armours.
He said that with fast changing equations among countries, India should rethink on its foreign policy.
“Instead of banking on one or two countries, India should strengthen its economic and strategic relationship with Japan, Russia and members of erstwhile USSR and eastern Asian countries," he said.
On alleged cases of corruption in recently concluded CommonWealth Games, the BJP leader said that if an inquiry was conducted by joint parliamentary committee it would have been more reliable.
“Now the CAG and other agencies are probing the cases of corruption. The agencies should complete the same at the earliest and the report should be tabled in the Parliament," he said.
Joshi said that those who had been prima facie guilty in Adarsh Housing Society scam in Mumbai have no right to continue on a responsible post.
“The BJP would strongly raise the issue in the Parliament," he said.
He accused the Centre of cheating the people on the issue of price rise.
“While prices of all the commodities from food grain to medicines have increased many fold, the government had said that it will control the situation in July and then December. But the question is when this July or December will actually come," Joshi said.
