Mumbai: Gautami Power Ltd, a private power generator with a 469MW plant in Peddapuram, Andhra Pradhesh, has filed a petition in the Supreme Court saying Anil Ambani’s Reliance Natural Resources Ltd’s (RNRL) claims on gas from Krishna-Godavari (KG) D6 block, will have a “direct bearing, effect and impact” on it. The company has been allotted 1.72 million standard cubic metres of gas a day (mscmd) from the block , operated by Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL).
This development has added a new dimension to the nearly three-year-old gas dispute between RIL and RNRL under which RNRL is claiming rights to 28 mscmd for 17 years at $ 2.34 per mBtu, quoting a 2005 family pact that formed the basis of splitting the Reliance businesses.
The apex court willbe hearing the case on July 20.
Gautami said in its petition that RNRL’s petition requesting the court to restrain RIL from selling gas to any third party affects its “settled and concluded rights” referring to the gas supply agreement it h as signed with RIL, as per the government’s gas utilization policy. It has asked the court to allow it to intervene so that it can safeguard its rights.
