Cabinet clears Rs3,900 cr in dearness dues

The government has cleared the release of additional instalments of dearness allowance to Union government employees and dues to pensioners from 1 January 2007.
The total additional financial implication on account of both payments is estimated at over Rs3,900 crore for the financial year 2007-08.
The cabinet also extended the life of the Special Railway Safety Fund, set up to carry out safety-related improvements at the Indian Railways, for another year beyond March 2007, to complete pending work worth Rs1,882 crore. Of this, Rs1,176 crore will be funded by the finance ministry. To fund the rest, the Railways will dip into the existing fund corpus for Rs664 crore and depend on its internal resources for the balance amount.
The cabinet also approved funding worth Rs112.51 crore for the organizing committee of the Commonwealth Games 2010, and also made a Rs12.50 crore allocation for the Sports Authority of India.
A new post of principal commissioner of the Commonwealth Games will be created in the Delhi Development Authority as well, information and broadcasting minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters.
