Centre to partly fund PPPs in solid-waste management
New Delhi:The Centre has offered to pitch in with funds for private companies involved in solid waste management and sewerage projects in India to ensure economic viability, Union urban development minister Jaipal Reddy said.
Speaking at a two-day conference on environment and solid waste management, Reddy urged delegates, including many from European countries, to suggest practiceable models for public-private partnerships (PPPs). Reddy said solid waste management is eminently suitable for private involvement in the form of management contracts in collection, transportation and segregation of solid wastes, re-cycling and maintenance of sanitary landfills.
