Ahmedabad: Emphasizing that the currency demonetization move was a brave decision for national interest, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the opposition parties were only putting obstacles by making so-called protests. “It is an important role of opposition to criticize the government in a democratic system. But, the protest against public developmental works as a part of politics is not appropriate," the Prime Minister said on Saturday while addressing a farmers rally in Gujarat after inaugurating a Rs350 crore cheese manufacturing factory of Banas Dairy, a part of Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF).
This was Modi’s first visit to Gujarat after announcing demonetisation move.
“Obstacles are being created in Lok Sabha, and the opposition is well aware of the reasons behind it. They are not allowing Lok Sabha proceedings because their bluff is going to be open. Hence, I have decided to speak my words in jan sabha since I am not being allowed to speak in Lok Sabha. This government has taken the tough decision of demonetization to empower common people not for the wealthy people," he added.
