New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has congratulated Jhalanath Khanal, his newly-elected Nepalese counterpart, for being chosen the next head of government.
Prime Minister called Khanal Thursday evening, soon after he was elected by Nepal’s Constituent Assembly after a seven month deadlock, and followed it up with a congratulatory letter on Friday.
“India stands ready to partner Nepal to exploit the potential (for cooperation) to its fullest on the basis of equality, mutual respect and mutual benefit, ” Singh said in the missive.
Khanal, 60, is the leader of the Communist Party of Nepal and he was elected with crucial support of the CPN-Maoist whose chief Prachanda quit the race at the last minute to enable the former’s election.
