New Delhi: The BJP on Thursday firmed up a seat-sharing plan with the Asom Gana Parishad for the Lok Sabha elections. The party will contest 8 seats in Assam, leaving the remaining 6 to the regional party. As a part of the deal, AGP will play the role of a senior partner in the 2011 assembly elections. AGP hoped that a change in regime would help ensure better security for the state.

BJP President Rajnath Singh said, “We all know that the BJP has already aligned with RLD and INLD, so this clearly shows that the party is expanding not only geographically, but politically as well."
Meanwhile, in Orissa the BJP is bargaining with its decade-old partner, the Biju Janata Dal, over sharing seats for the assembly polls. The state will be facing simultaneous elections for both, the Lok Sabha and the state assembly. The BJP and Biju Janata Dal had contested the previous assembly elections on a 4:3 ratio. But now the BJD wants to change the formula as it is confident of winning 100 seats on its own out of a total of 147 seats.
