New Delhi: The country’s top regulators, including from key sectors such as telecom, insurance and power, will meet on Tuesday, possibly for evolving a consensus to ask the government for a longer tenure and better emoluments.
The meeting has been convened by Nripendra Misra, chairman of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai). Misra confirmed the meeting, but said there was no set agenda. “I have invited them for a meeting over lunch,” he said.
Asked who would be attending the meeting, Misra said C.S. Rao, chairman of the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority, has confirmed his participation.
Sources, however, said the meeting would consider asking the government that the tenure of all regulators be extended from the present three years to a uniform five years. Besides, the meeting might also discuss seeking higher remuneration. PTI
